Salim narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him: He heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Kill snakes, (especially) the one with two stripes and the one with a short tail, for they snatch away eyesight and cause miscarriages." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever I saw a snake, I would kill it, until once Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah bin Abd al-Mundhir (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw me while I was chasing a snake that had come out in the house. They forbade me from killing it. I said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded to kill them. Both of them said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden killing snakes that come out in houses.
