Chapter on Killing Animals – On the reason for the command to kill snakes that are not jinn
Hadith 5642
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " اقْتُلُوا الْحَيَّاتِ ، وَاقْتُلُوا ذَا الطُّفْيَتَيْنِ ، وَالأَبْتَرَ ، فَإِنَّهُمَا يَلْتَمِسَانِ الْبَصَرَ ، وَيَسْتَسْقِطَانِ الْحَبَلَ " .
Salim bin Abdullah narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Kill snakes, especially the one with two stripes and the one with a short tail, because they cause blindness and miscarriages."
