Chapter on Killing Animals – On the description of snakes that may be killed
Hadith 5638
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، وَغَيْرُهُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " اقْتُلُوا الْحَيَّاتِ ، وَاقْتُلُوا ذَا الطُّفْيَتَيْنِ وَالأَبْتَرَ ، فَإِنَّهُمَا يَلْتَمِسَانِ الْبَصَرَ ، وَيُسْقِطَانِ الْحَبَلَ " . قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَشَجِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ ، وَقَالَ : " فَمَنْ وَجَدَ ذَا الطُّفْيَتَيْنِ وَالأَبْتَرَ ، فَلَمْ يَقْتُلْهُمَا ، فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا " .
Salim bin Abdullah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kill snakes, especially those with two stripes and those with cut tails, for they cause blindness and miscarriages."
Ibn Wahb says: With another chain, the same hadith is narrated from Salim from his father from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), but with these words: "Whoever finds a snake with two stripes or a cut tail and does not kill it, is not from among us."
