Section on Animals – On another narration confirming the previous explanation
Hadith 5624
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، أَنَّ نَاعِمًا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةُ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : " رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارًا مَوْسُومَ الْوَجْهِ ، فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ " ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : وَاللَّهِ لا أَسِمُهُ إِلا فِي أَقْصَى شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْوَجْهِ ، فَأَمَرَ بِحِمَارٍ لَهُ ، فَكُوِيَ فِي جَاعِرَتَيْهِ ، فَهُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ كَوَى الْجَاعِرَتَيْنِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a donkey that had been branded on its face, so he strongly condemned this. The owner said: By Allah, now I will brand it on that part of its body which is farthest from the face. So, by his order, the donkey was branded on its thighs (where the tail reaches when it moves). Thus, it was the first animal to be branded on its thighs.
