Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) married Lady Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), he invited people. The people ate the food and then sat down and began to talk. The narrator says: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) showed as if he was about to stand up, but even then the people did not get up. When he saw this situation, he stood up. Some of those present also stood up, but three men still remained seated. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) (after going outside) returned and those people were still sitting. He went back again, then those people got up and left. I came and informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about this: Those people have left, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came until he entered the house. When I was about to enter, he hung a curtain between me and himself. Allah Almighty (on this occasion) revealed this verse: "O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet until permission is given to you." This verse continues up to: "Indeed, this is great in the sight of Allah."
