On traits that make a person deserving of the Prophet’s dislike
Hadith 5557
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيِّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ أَحَبَّكُمْ إِلَيَّ ، وَأَقْرَبَكُمْ مِنِّي فِي الآخِرَةِ ، أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلاقًا ، وَإِنَّ أَبْغَضَكُمْ إِلَيَّ ، وَأَبْعَدَكُمْ مِنِّي فِي الآخِرَةِ ، أَسْوَؤُكُمْ أَخْلاقًا ، الْمُتَشَدِّقُونَ ، الْمُتَفَيْهِقُونَ ، الثَّرْثَارُونَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “In the Hereafter, the most beloved to me among you and the closest to me will be those who have the best character, and in the Hereafter, the most disliked by me and the farthest from me will be those who have the worst character—those who, with affectation, present themselves as eloquent, speak in an exaggerated manner, and utter nonsensical things.”
