Hadith 5539
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا ، وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا ، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ " .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to bed, he would recite: "O Allah! In Your name, I die (i.e., sleep) and I live (i.e., wake up)." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up, he would recite: "All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after causing us to die (i.e., sleep), and to Him is the resurrection."
