Chapter on Etiquette of Sleep – On clarifying that this supplication is for one who lies on his right side
Hadith 5535
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ بِحَرَّانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمَقْبُرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، فَلْيَنْزِعْ إِزَارَهُ ، وَلْيَنْفُضْ بِدَاخِلَتِهَا فِرَاشَهُ ، ثُمَّ لْيَتَوَسَّدْ يَمِينَهُ ، وَيَقُولُ : بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَضَعُ جَنْبِي ، وَبِكَ ارْفَعُهُ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَهَا فَارْحَمْهَا ، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعَ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ سَعِيدٌ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَسَمِعَهُ مِنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، فَالطَّرِيقَانِ جَمِيعًا مَحْفُوظَانِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any person goes to his bed, he should take the edge of his lower garment and, using its inner side, dust off his bed. Then he should lie down on his right side and recite: 'O Allah! In Your name I lay down my side (on the bed), and with Your help I will raise it up: O Allah! If You take my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it with that which You protect Your righteous servants.'"
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sa'id Maqburi heard this narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also heard this narration from his father, who narrated it from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). Both chains are preserved.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sa'id Maqburi heard this narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also heard this narration from his father, who narrated it from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). Both chains are preserved.
