Chapter on Etiquette of Sleep - Calling Fire the Enemy for the Previously Mentioned Reason
Hadith 5520
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : احْتَرَقَ بَيْتٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَلَمَّا حُدِّثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَأْنِهِمْ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ النَّارَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ عَدُوُّكُمْ ، فَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ ، فَأَطْفِئُوهَا عَنْكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In Madinah Munawwarah, during the night, a house along with its inhabitants was burned. When their case was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he said: This fire is your enemy; when you are about to sleep, extinguish it.
