Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When you hear the barking of dogs or the braying of donkeys at night, seek refuge with Allah, for they see that which you do not see. And when people go to sleep, you should go out of your houses less, because Allah the Exalted spreads among His creation at night whomsoever He wills. Close your doors and mention the name of Allah upon them, for Satan does not open a door that has been closed and Allah's name mentioned upon it. And cover your water jugs, cover your vessels, and tie the mouths of your water skins."
