Prohibition of Shaving Parts of Boys' and Men's Heads (Qaza')
Hadith 5506
أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَنَدِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زِيَادٍ اللَّحْجِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُرَّةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ نَافِعٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَنْهَى عَنِ الْقَزَعِ " ، فَقُلْتُ : وَمَا الْقَزَعُ ؟ فَأَشَارَ لَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : إِذَا حَلَقَ الصَّبِيُّ ، وَتَرَكَ هَا هُنَا شَعْرًا وَهَهُنَا شَعْرًا ، فَأَشَارَ لَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ ، وَجَانِبَيْ رَأْسِهِ ، فَقِيلَ لِعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ : الْجَارِيَةُ وَالْغُلامُ ، فَقَالَ : لا أَدْرِي ، هَكَذَا قَالَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding qaza‘. The narrator says: I asked what is meant by qaza‘, so the narrator named Ubaidullah explained: When a child's head is shaved and some hair is left here and some hair is left there. The narrator named Ubaidullah pointed to his forehead and one side of his head while saying this. It was asked from Ubaidullah whether the ruling is the same for both girls and boys regarding this. He replied: I do not know. He (i.e., my teacher) narrated this hadith in this way.
