Report That the Prophet Did Not Wear the Gold Ring He Discarded
Hadith 5491
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْمَقَابِرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، فَلَبِسَهُ ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ الذَّهَبِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ ، وَإِنِّي لَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا " ، فَنَبَذَهُ ، فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of gold. When he wore it, people also had gold rings made. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said: I had worn this ring. Now I will never wear it again. Then he took it off, so the people also took off their rings.
