Hadith 5488
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ ذَرِيحٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ أَبُو طَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعَلَيْهِ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لِي أَرَى عَلَيْكَ حِلْيَةَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، فَطَرَحَهُ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ وَعَلَيْهِ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ شَبَهٍ ، فَقَالَ : مَا لِي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ رِيحَ الأَصْنَامِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ أَتَّخِذُهُ ؟ قَالَ : مِنْ وَرِقٍ ، وَلا تُتِمَّهُ مِثْقَالاً " .
Abdullah bin Buraidah narrates from his father that a man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was wearing a ring made of iron. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: What is the reason that I see on you the adornment of the people of Hell? The man took it off, then he came again to your service wearing a ring made of brass. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: What is the reason that I smell the odor of idols from you? He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), from what material should I wear a ring? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Of silver, and do not make it a full mithqal (i.e., let it be of less weight than that).
