Reason for This Instruction
Hadith 5476
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ بِحَرَّانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَجُوسُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُمْ يُوفُونَ سِبَالَهُمْ ، وَيَحْلِقُونَ لِحَاهُمْ ، فَخَالِفُوهُمْ " ، فَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَجُزُّ سِبَالَهُ ، كَمَا تُجَزُّ الشَّاةُ أَوِ الْبَعِيرُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Magians were mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: They let their moustaches grow long and shave their beards, so you do the opposite of them. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to trim his moustache in such a way as the hair of a goat or a camel is trimmed.
