Report That May Seem to Contradict the Report of Zayd bin Abi Unaysah
Hadith 5449
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ نُذَيْرٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَضَلَةِ سَاقِي ، فَقَالَ : " هَاهُنَا مَوْضِعُ الإِزَارِ ، فَإِنْ أَبَيْتَ ، فَهَهُنَا ، وَلا حَقَّ لِلإِزَارِ فِي الْكَعْبَيْنِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعَ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ نُذَيرٍ ، وَالأَغَرِّ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ ، فَالطَّرِيقَانِ جَمِيعًا مَحْفُوظَانِ ، إِلا أَنَّ خَبَرَ الأَغَرِّ أَغْرَبُ ، وَخَبَرَ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ نَذِيرٍ أَشْهُرُ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) held my shin from the middle and said: This is the place for the lower garment; if you do not accept this, then here it is, however, the lower garment has no right below the ankles.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Abu Ishaq heard this narration from Muslim bin Nadhir and Agharr Abu Muslim, so both of its chains are preserved; however, the narration transmitted by Agharr is rarer, and the narration transmitted by Muslim bin Nadhir is more well-known.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Abu Ishaq heard this narration from Muslim bin Nadhir and Agharr Abu Muslim, so both of its chains are preserved; however, the narration transmitted by Agharr is rarer, and the narration transmitted by Muslim bin Nadhir is more well-known.
Hadith 5450
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ أَبِي خَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ الإِزَارُ ، فَأَتَيْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ ، فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الإِزَارِ ، فَقَالَ : أَجَلْ بِعِلْمٍ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقَيْهِ ، لا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ ، وَمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَفِي النَّارِ ، مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ " .
Ali bin Abdur Rahman narrates from his father: The matter of the lower garment (tehband) was mentioned, so I went to the service of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: Tell me about the lower garment. He said: Yes, (I will tell you) a matter of knowledge. I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A believer's lower garment should reach to the middle of his shin. There is no sin if it is between the middle of the shin and the ankles, but whatever is below that will be in the Hellfire. And whoever lets his lower garment hang out of pride, Allah Almighty will not look at him with mercy."
