Section on Beverages - Clarification That the Prophet Allowed Fermentation in These Vessels If Not Intoxicating
Hadith 5409
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقِ بْنِ الأَجْدَعِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ نَبِيذِ الأَوْعِيَةِ ، أَلا وَإِنَّ وِعَاءً لا يُحَرِّمُ شَيْئًا ، وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of knowledge from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "I had forbidden you from (drinking) nabidh in specific vessels. Beware, vessels do not make anything unlawful, and every intoxicating thing is unlawful."
Hadith 5410
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالنَّقِيرِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (the use of) dubba’ and naqir.
