Section on Beverages - Prohibition of Drinking Milk from Animals That Eat Filth
Hadith 5399
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنْ لَبَنِ الْجَلالَةِ ، وَعَنِ الْمُجَثَّمَةِ ، وَعَنِ الشُّرْبِ مِنْ فِي السِّقَاءِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : الْجَلالَةُ : مَا كَانَ الْغَالِبُ عَلَى عَلَفِهَا الْقَذَارَةَ ، فَإِذَا كَانَ الْغَالِبُ عَلَى عَلَفِهَا الأَشْيَاءَ الطَّاهِرَةَ الطَّيِّبَةَ لَمْ تَكُنْ بِجَلالَةٍ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking the milk of Jallalah (animals that eat filth), and from Mujaththama, and from drinking directly from a water-skin by putting the mouth to it.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Jallalah refers to that animal whose main food is filth, but if most of its fodder is pure things, then it will not be considered Jallalah.
