Section on Beverages - Description of the Fermented Drink the Prophet Used to Drink
Hadith 5395
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا عَرَّسَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ ، دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابَهُ ، ثُمَّ صَنَعَ لَهُمْ طَعَامًا ، وَمَا قَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ إِلا امْرَأَتُهُ أُمُّ أُسَيْدٍ ، وَبَلَّتْ تُمَيْرَاتٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فِي تَوْرٍ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَتْهُ بِهِ ، فَسَقَتْهُ " تَخُصُّهُ بِذَلِكِ .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Sayyiduna Abu Usaid Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) got married, he invited the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions. Then he had food prepared for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The wife of Sayyiduna Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyidah Umm Usaid (may Allah be pleased with her), served the food to the people. She had soaked some dates in a stone vessel from the night before. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished eating, that lady brought the drink and especially served it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
