Chapter on Etiquette of Drinking - Instruction to Pass Water to the Right Even if the Left is More Honorable
Hadith 5334
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِلَبَنٍ ، وَقَدْ شِيبَ بِمَاءٍ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ ، وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ أَعْطَى الأَعْرَابِيَّ ، وَقَالَ : " الأَيْمَنُ فَالأَيْمَنُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Milk mixed with water was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). On his right side was a Bedouin sitting, and on his left was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it and then, giving it to the Bedouin, said: The right side has the first right.
