Chapter on Etiquette of Drinking - Reason for the Prohibition of This Act
Hadith 5324
أَخْبَرَنَا السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِي يَشْرَبُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ مَا فِي بَطْنِهِ ، لاسْتَقَاءَ " ، أَخْبَرَنَا السَّامِيُّ فِي عَقِبِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ الزُّهْرِيِّ .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If the person who drinks while standing were to know what harm is in it, he would vomit it out." The same narration is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) through another chain of transmission.
