Chapter on Etiquette of Drinking - Permissibility of Drinking Water While Standing
Hadith 5318
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ جَدَّةٍ لَهُ يُقَالُ لَهَا كَبْشَةُ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَشَرِبَ مِنْ فَمِ قِرْبَةٍ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ، فَقَامَتْ إِلَيْهِ فَقَطَعَتْهُ ، فَأَمْسَكَتْهُ " .
Sayyida Kabsha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her house, and he drank water while standing, placing his mouth on the mouth of the waterskin. Then that woman got up and went to the waterskin. She cut off its edge and kept it with her.
