Chapter on Etiquette of Drinking - Permissibility of Drinking from Cups Contrary to Sufi Disapproval
Hadith 5314
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَحْيَى بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، وَمَعَهُ صَاحِبٌ ، فَسَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَاحِبُهُ ، فَرَدَّ الرَّجُلُ ، وَقَالَ : بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي فِي سَاعَةٍ حَارَّةٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ مَاءٌ بَاتَ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي شَنَّةٍ ، فَاسْقِنَاهُ ، وَإِلا كَرَعْنَا " ، وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَوِّلُ الْمَاءَ فِي حَائِطِهِ ، فَقَالَ : عِنْدِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَاءٌ بَائِتٌ ، فَانْطَلِقْ إِلَى الْعَرِيشِ ، وَانْطَلَقَ بِهِمَا إِلَى عَرِيشَةٍ ، فَسَكَبَ فِي قَدَحٍ مَاءً ، ثُمَّ حَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ دَاجِنٍ لَهُ ، فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ عَادَ فَشَرِبَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي جَاءَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went to an Ansari's house. A companion was with him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companion greeted with salam. That person replied. He said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, the heat is intense. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: If you have such water that has been kept in a water-skin since last night, then give it to us to drink, otherwise we will drink the water (used for irrigating the field). That person was irrigating his garden at that time. He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I have such water that has been kept since last night. Then he went to the shelter, took both of them under it. He poured water from a water-skin, then milked his goat and presented it to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it. Then he milked again, and the companion who had come with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also drank it.
