Hospitality – Giving the invitee the choice to eat or not after accepting the invitation
Hadith 5303
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى بِعَسْكَرِ مُكْرَمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَحْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُجِبْ ، فَإِنْ شَاءَ أَكَلَ ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person is invited to a meal, he should accept the invitation; if he wishes, he may eat, and if he wishes, he may not eat."
