Hospitality – Permissibility for a pious person to eat at the house of someone less pious
Hadith 5295
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بِبُسْتَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ الْجَارُودِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " صَنَعَ بَعْضُ عُمُومَتِي لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا ، وَقَالَ : إِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ فِي بَيْتِي ، وَتُصَلِّيَ فِيهِ ، فَأَتَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِذَا فِي الْبَيْتِ فَحْلٌ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْفُحُولِ ، " فَأَمَرَ بِجَانِبٍ مِنْهُ ، فَكُنِسَ ، ثُمَّ رُشَّ ، فَصَلَّى وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One of my uncles prepared food for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He requested, "I wish that you eat food at my house and perform prayer there." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to his house. There was a male animal in the house. By the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), one side of the house was swept and then water was sprinkled there. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed prayer there. We also performed prayer behind him, following his lead.
