Hospitality – Command to accept invitations when invited
Hadith 5289
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيتُوا الدَّعْوَةَ إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are invited, then go to the invitation."
Hadith 5290
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ الأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعُمَرِيِّ ، أَنَّ نَافِعًا حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَهُ ، كَانَ إِذَا دُعِيَ ذَهَبَ إِلَى الدَّاعِي ، فَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا دَعَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُفْطِرًا جَلَسَ ، فَأَكَلَ ، قَالَ نَافِعٌ : قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ إِلَى كُرَاعٍ ، فَأَجِيبُوا " .
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): When he was invited, he would attend the invitation. If he was fasting, he would make a supplication for blessing and return, and if he was not fasting, he would stay there and eat the food. Nafi’ narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) stated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are invited to a meal (food), then accept it."
