Permissible and Impermissible Foods – Warning against eating mule meat
Hadith 5272
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا غَسَّانُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ : أَنَّهُمْ ذَبَحُوا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ الْخَيْلَ وَالْبِغَالَ وَالْحَمِيرَ ، " فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْبِغَالِ وَالْحَمِيرِ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنِ الْخَيْلِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, those people slaughtered horses, mules, and donkeys, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade (the eating of) mules and donkeys, but he did not forbid (the eating of) horses.
