Hadith 5264
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some companions were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), among whom was Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). The meat of a lizard was presented, so one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is the meat of a lizard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You people may eat it, it is lawful, but it is not my food.
Hadith 5265
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the lizard, so he said: I do not eat it, nor do I declare it unlawful.

Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Hasnah Mahri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We participated in a battle with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We camped at a place where there were many lizards. We were in need, so we caught them and started cooking them in a pot. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) inquired: What is this? We replied: This is lizard which we have caught. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: A group from the Children of Israel was transformed (into another form). I fear, perhaps these are the same. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered us, so we overturned the pots, even though we were hungry.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The command to overturn the pots in which the lizard was being cooked is such an order through which the prohibition of eating lizard is intended, and the reason for this is that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) avoided it. This does not mean that eating it has been declared haram.
