Hadith 5261
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ السَّعْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْثًا إِلَى أَرْضِ جُهَيْنَةَ ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَجُلاً ، فَلَمَّا نَفَذَتْ أَزْوَادُهُمْ ، أَمَرَ أَمِيرُهُمْ بِمَا بَقِيَ مِنْ أَزْوَادِهِمْ ، فَجُمِعَتْ ، فَجَعَلَ يُقَوِّتُنَا كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَمْرَةً تَمْرَةً ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، مَا كَانَتْ تُغْنِي عَنْكُمْ تَمْرَةٌ ؟ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهَا فُقِدَتْ ، فَوَجَدْنَا فَقْدَهَا ، كَانَ أَحَدُنَا يَضَعُهَا بَيْنَ أَسْنَانِهِ وَحَنَكِهِ فَيَمُصُّهَا ، وَنُصِيبُ مِنْ وَرَقِ الشَّجَرِ ، وَنَبَاتِ الأَرْضِ مَعَ ذَلِكَ ، حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى سَاحِلِ الْبَحْرِ ، فَأَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ لَنَا حُوتًا أَلْقَاهُ الْبَحْرُ ، فَأَكَلْنَا وَقَدَدْنَا ، فَلَمَّا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَرْتَحِلَ ، أَمَرَ أَمِيرُنَا بِضِلْعٍ مِنْ ضُلُوعِهِ ، فَنَكَبَ طَرَفَاهُ فِي الأَرْضِ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِبَعِيرٍ فَرُحِّلَ ، فَمَرَّ تَحْتَهُ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched an expedition towards the land of Juhainah. He appointed a man as the leader of those people. When their provisions ran out, their leader ordered that the remaining provisions be collected. When they were collected, the leader used to give us one date each per day.
The narrator says: I asked, "What did you do with one date?" He said: By Allah, when even that finished, we felt its loss intensely. Each one of us would keep it between his teeth and suck on it. We would find tree leaves and the vegetation of the earth would be mixed with it, until we reached the seashore. Then Allah Almighty brought forth a fish for us, which the sea had thrown out. We ate it and used its fat. When we were about to depart from there, our leader ordered that one of its ribs be erected on the ground. Then, under his command, luggage was placed on a camel, and the camel passed underneath it.
