Permissible and Impermissible Foods – Permissibility of eating birds that have been hunted
Hadith 5256
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُدَامَةَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ وَنَحْنُ حُرُمٌ ، فَأُهْدِيَ لَنَا طَيْرٌ ، وَطَلْحَةُ رَاقِدٌ ، فَمِنَّا مَنْ أَكَلَ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ تَوَرَّعَ ، فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ طَلْحَةُ وَافَقَ مَنْ أَكَلَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " أَكَلْنَاهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Mu'adh bin Abdur Rahman narrates from his father: We were with Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him). We had put on the Ihram. A bird (its meat) was given to us as a gift. Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was sleeping at that time. Some of us ate it and some abstained. When Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up, he sided with those who had eaten its meat. He stated that we had eaten this (bird's meat) in the company of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
