Table Manners – Report indicating that eating little is a sign of Muslims
Hadith 5238
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْمُسْلِمُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ ، وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "A Muslim eats with one intestine, and a disbeliever eats with seven intestines."
Hadith 5239
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ فِيلٍ الْبَالِسِيُّ بِأَنْطَاكِيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ ، وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ " ، قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : هَذَا الْخَبَرُ خَرَجَ عَلَى إِنْسَانٍ بِعَيْنِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A believer eats in one intestine, and a disbeliever eats in seven intestines." The Shaykh says: This narration is exactly in accordance with the condition of human beings.
