Table Manners – Description of how one uses his right and left hands
Hadith 5227
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الإِفْرِيقِيِّ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، حَدَّثَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَجْعَلُ يَمِينَهُ لِطَعَامِهِ ، وَيَجْعَلُ شِمَالَهُ لِمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ " ، أَبُو أَيُّوبَ اسْمُهُ : عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الإِفْرِيقِيُّ .
Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to reserve his right hand for eating and his left hand for other tasks.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Abu Ayyub is Abdullah bin Ali Afriki.
