Table Manners – Report refuting the claim that eating at a table is extravagance
Hadith 5222
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ الْجَرْمِيِّ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي مُوسَى وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ دَجَاجَةٌ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا ، قُلْنَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا ؟ فَقَالَ : " أَكَلْتُهُ عَلَى مَائِدَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Zahdam Jarami narrates: We were present in the company of Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). There was a chicken placed before him and he was eating it. We asked, "Are you eating this?" He replied, "I have eaten it at the table of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
