Report refuting the claim that Nafi’ did not hear this narration from Rafi’ ibn Khadij
Hadith 5194
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَانْطَلَقْنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، وَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : إِنِّي نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّكَ تُحَدِّثُ عَنْ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا سُئِلَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنَا رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ " .
Nafi' reports: Once, Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) set out. We also accompanied him until we came to Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him). Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: I have come to know that you narrate from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade leasing out fields. Rafi' replied: Yes. After that, whenever Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about this matter, he would say: Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade leasing out fields.
