Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by an Arab tribe, among whom there was a man who had been stung by a snake or a scorpion. The people asked: Is there anyone among you who knows how to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing)? One of those companions went and recited something over him, and the man was cured. When that companion returned to his fellows, they did not like what he had done. They said: You have taken compensation for (reciting) Allah’s Book. When these people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him about this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called that companion and asked him. He replied: O Messenger of Allah! We passed by an Arab tribe in which there was a man who had been stung by a scorpion or a snake. The people asked: Is there anyone among you who knows how to perform ruqyah? So I recited Surah Al-Fatihah over him, and he was cured. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The thing most deserving for which you take compensation is the Book of Allah.
