Description of the type of life-grant that is discouraged
Hadith 5138
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ أَعْمَرَ رَجُلا عُمْرَى لَهُ وَلِعَقِبِهِ ، فَقَدْ قَطَعَ قَوْلُهُ حَقَّهُ مِنْهَا وَهِيَ لِمَنْ أُعْمِرَ وَلِعَقِبِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever gives something to someone as 'Umra (a gift for life), then it will belong to that person and to his heirs. (The giver) by his statement has separated his right from that thing; it will be the property of the one to whom it was given as 'Umra and the property of his heirs."
