Reason for the revelation of "Make peace among yourselves"
Hadith 5093
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ دَاوُدَ بْنَ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ أَتَى مَكَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، أَوْ فَعَلَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَلَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا " ، فَتَسَارَعَ إِلَيْهِ الشُّبَّانُ وَبَقِيَ الشُّيُوخُ تَحْتَ الرَّايَاتِ ، فَلَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، جَاءُوا يَطْلُبُونَ مَا قَدْ جَعَلَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمُ الأَشْيَاخُ : لا تَذْهَبُونَ بِهِ دُونَنَا ، فَإِنَّا كُنَّا رِدْءًا لَكُمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ : فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ سورة الأنفال آية 1 .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever goes to such and such place and does such and such action, he will receive this and that." So the young people quickly reached there while the elderly remained behind. They stayed under the banners, and when Allah Almighty granted them victory, those people came to obtain what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had assigned for them. The elderly said to them: "You cannot take it by leaving us behind, for we were your supporters." So Allah Almighty revealed this verse regarding this: "Fear Allah and make peace among yourselves."
