Chapter: Usury - Clarification that selling a measure of dates for two is usury
Hadith 5022
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقَطَّانُ بِالرَّقَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حِمْيَرٍ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَمْرٍ بَرْنِيٍّ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : اشْتَرَيْتُهُ صَاعًا بِصَاعَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَوَّهْ عَيْنُ الرِّبَا لا تَفْعَلْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man brought Barni dates to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Where did these come from?" He replied, "I bought one sa' of these in exchange for two sa'." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Alas, this is pure usury. Do not do this."
