Hadith 4997
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him): He was asked about selling one type of barley in exchange for another type of barley, so he replied: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) being asked about trading fresh dates for dry dates. He said: “Do not fresh dates decrease when they dry?” The people replied: “Yes.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then it will not be allowed (i.e., this is not permissible).” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) What is meant by this is: selling fresh barley in exchange for dry barley.
