Hadith 4956
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حَيْوَةَ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى غِفَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لا تَمْنَعُوا فَضْلَ الْمَاءِ ، وَلا تَمْنَعُوا الْكَلأَ ، فَيَهْزُلَ الْمَاءُ وَيَجُوعَ الْعِيَالُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Do not withhold surplus water and do not withhold grass, otherwise wealth (i.e., agricultural land) will perish and children will remain hungry."
