Chapter: Forbidden sales - Report clarifying the ambiguous wording mentioned
Hadith 4953
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ فَضْلِ الْمَاءِ لِيُمْنَعَ بِهِ الْكَلأُ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the selling of surplus water because as a result, grass would stop growing.
