Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the conquest of Makkah, I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the buying and selling of swine, the buying and selling of carrion, and the buying and selling of idols." A man asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), what is your opinion about the fat of carrion, since we use its fat to apply on skins and on boats, and we also use it to light lamps? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: May Allah destroy the Jews. Allah made fat unlawful for them, so they melted it and then sold it and consumed its price."
