Chapter: Sale of a Mudabbar slave - Permissibility of sale if the mudabbar has no wealth except himself
Hadith 4933
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ بِبَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْتَقَ عَبْدًا لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُ ، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَبَاعَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " أَنْتَ أَحْوَجُ إِلَى ثَمَنِهِ وَاللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَغْنَى " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) declared his slave to be free after his death. He had no other wealth except this slave. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took hold of him and sold him. He said: You are more in need of his price, and Allah is more free of need than this.
