Hadith 4877
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الأَشَجِّ ، أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ أَبَا رَافِعٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ أَقْبَلَ بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُلْقِيَ فِي قَلْبِيَ الإِسْلامُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي وَاللَّهِ لا أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ أَبَدًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي لا أَخِيسُ بِالْعَهْدِ ، وَلا أَحْبِسُ الْبُرُدَ ، وَلَكِنِ ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِكَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِكَ الآنَ فَارْجِعْ " ، قَالَ : فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ ، ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَقْبَلْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَسْلَمْتُ " ، قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ أَبَا رَافِعٍ كَانَ قِبْطِيًّا .
Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he brought a letter from the Quraysh to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He narrates that when I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), love for Islam settled in my heart. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), by Allah, I will never go back to them. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will not break the treaty, and I will not keep the messenger with me. Go back to them. If you still feel the same in your heart as you do now, then you may return. The narrator says: I went back to those people. Then I returned to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam. The narrator named Abu Bukair states that Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Copt.
