Chapter on Truce and Peace Treaties – On the number of people with the Prophet at Hudaybiyyah.
Hadith 4874
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ بْنِ دِعَامَةَ السَّدُوسِيِّ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ : " كَمْ كَانُوا يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ؟ قَالَ : أَلْفٌ وَخَمْسُ مِائَةٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : إِنَّ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : كَانُوا أَلْفًا وَأَرْبَعَ مِئَةٍ ، قَالَ : أَوْهَمَ جَابِرٌ هُوَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا أَلْفًا وَخَمْسَ مِئَةٍ " .
Qatadah narrates: I asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, "What was the number of people at the time of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah?" He replied: One thousand five hundred. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says their number was one thousand four hundred. So Sa'id said: He must have been mistaken. He himself has told me that their number was one thousand five hundred.
