Chapter on Migration – On the preference for migration among Muslims depending on their intentions.
Hadith 4863
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِصَامِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْهِجْرَةُ هِجْرَتَانِ ، فَأَمَّا هِجْرَةُ الْبَادِي يُجِيبُ إِذَا دُعِيَ وَيُطِيعُ إِذَا أُمِرَ ، وَأَمَّا هِجْرَةُ الْحَاضِرِ فَهِيَ أَشَدُّهُمَا بَلِيَّةً وَأَعْظَمُهُمَا أَجْرًا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: There are two types of migration. The migration of a villager is this: when he is called, he comes, and when he is commanded, he obeys. As for the migration of a city dweller, in terms of trial it is more severe, and its reward is also greater.
Hadith 4864
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ابْنِ أَخِي يَعْلَى ابْنِ مُنْيَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ يَعْلَى ابْنَ مُنْيَةَ ، قَالَ : جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَبِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، بَايَعَ أَبِي عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " بَلْ أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الْجِهَادِ ، قَدِ انْقَطَعَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ " .
Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Munyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) along with my father. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please take the pledge of migration from my father. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (No), rather I will take the pledge of jihad from him because migration has ended.
