Chapter on Embezzlement – On the prohibition of benefiting from spoils in a way that harms the Muslims.
Hadith 4850
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ التُّجِيبِيِّ ، عَنْ حَنَشِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّبَائِيِّ ، عَنْ رُوَيْفِعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَامَ خَيْبَرَ : " مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلا يَسْقِيَنَّ مَاءَهُ وَلَدَ غَيْرِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلا يَأْخُذَنَّ دَابَّةً مِنَ الْمَغَانِمِ فَيَرْكَبَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا أَعْجَفَهَا رَدَّهَا فِي الْمَغَانِمِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلا يَلْبَسْ ثَوْبًا مِنَ الْمَغَانِمِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَخْلَقَهُ رَدَّهُ فِي الْمَغَانِمِ " .
Sayyiduna Ruifa’ Thabit Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): On the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not water another’s offspring with his water, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not take any animal from the spoils of war and ride it until, when it becomes weak, he returns it to the spoils of war, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not take any cloth from the spoils of war and wear it until, when it becomes old, he returns it to the spoils of war.”
