Chapter on Spoils of War and Their Distribution – On the reason why the Prophet gave to those whose hearts were to be reconciled as described.
Hadith 4828
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَسْرُوقُ بْنُ الْمَرْزُبَانِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : " لَقَدْ أَعْطَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ ، وَإِنَّهُ لَمِنْ أَبْغَضِ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ ، فَمَا زَارَ يُعْطِينِي حَتَّى أَنَّهُ لأَحَبُّ الْخَلْقِ إِلَيَّ " .
Sayyiduna Safwan bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me (wealth). At first, you were the most disliked person to me. You kept giving me (gifts) until you became the most beloved of all people to me.
