Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): A prophet (peace be upon him) participated in battle along with his companions. Before setting out, he said: No one should come with me who has built a new house but has not yet lived in it; no one should come with me who has married a woman but has not yet consummated the marriage with her, or who has to return to take care of some necessary work. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Their encounter with the enemy happened near sunset. He prayed: O Allah! This (sun) is also under Your command, and I am also under Your command, so hold it back for me (from setting) until judgment is made between me and them (the disbelievers). So Allah Almighty held the sun back. Allah Almighty granted him victory. They collected the spoils of war, but the fire did not consume it. When they used to collect the spoils of war, Allah Almighty would send fire upon it, which would consume it. Their prophet (peace be upon him) said to them: Someone among you has committed treachery. Let one person from each tribe come to me and pledge allegiance to me. The people came to that prophet (peace be upon him) and pledged allegiance to him, and the hands of two men stuck to the hand of that prophet (peace be upon him). So that prophet (peace be upon him) said: You two have committed treachery. Both replied: Yes! (We have) hidden something like the head of a cow made of gold. Then both brought it and put it in the spoils of war, so Allah Almighty sent fire, and it consumed it. (The narrator states) On this occasion, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah Almighty, out of His mercy, has granted us the spoils of war and has given us relief because He knows our weakness.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Abdur Rahman bin Ibrahim Dimashqi heard hadith from Mu’adh bin Hisham in Makkah.
