Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You people consider “the conquest” to be the Conquest of Makkah; the Conquest of Makkah is indeed a conquest, but we count the pledge of Ridwan on the day of Hudaybiyyah as “the conquest.” He narrates: We were 114 people with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Hudaybiyyah is a well; we drew all the water from it, not leaving even a drop. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he came to the well, sat at its edge, then asked for a water vessel. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, rinsed his mouth, supplicated, and poured that water into the well. After a short while, we drew as much water as we wished from it and gave our animals to drink as well. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Our sheikh narrated these words to us: “114” people, although the number of those present was 1400, because the people present at Hudaybiyyah were one thousand four hundred.
