Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the recommendation to stay three days in the conquered land or with captured goods.
Hadith 4777
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُكْرَمِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا غَلَبَ قَوْمًا أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُقِيمَ بِعَرْصَتِهِمْ ثَلاثًا ، أَوْ قَالَ ثَلاثَ لَيَالٍ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) achieved victory over a people, he (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to stay in their area for three days (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) or three nights.
